Columbus Escape Rooms: Rules for Success
Escape Room Rules: Safety First!
Escape rooms should offer a safe experience for participants. Many have age recommendations; so if everyone in your group does not meet the age requirements, then ask if they can come play. Younger children should always be supervised to keep them safe. Be mindful of the environment; don't climb furniture, window sills, stand on chairs, or do anything that may risk injury. Leave electrical sockets and any wiring alone. If you feel unwell, or need to use the restroom, communicate with your game master that you wish to leave the room.
Escape Room Secret to Success: Communication is Key
Listen attentively during the pre-game briefing and backstory. The game master will outline the rules, safety protocols, how to request hints, and your goal. Throughout the game, communicate clearly with your teammates. Share your observations and thought processes - the answer might lie in someone else's perspective.
Escape Room Rules: Leave Your Tech Behind
In many escape rooms around Columbus, Ohio, phones and other electronic devices are not welcomed. At Magic Escape Rooms, we do not ban the use of phones (even though they probably won't help you). That said, phone use can be a distraction and hinder the immersive experience. Some facilities offer lockers to store your belongings securely. (We do too.)
Escape Room Rules: Respect the Room and Props
Room escape games are designed to be interactive puzzle rooms. Handle props with care and avoid forcing anything open, mess with cameras, remove ceiling tiles, damage props, force or pry open locked items. Things that can be opened, such as a locked box, will easily do so when properly unlocked. Each escape room game provides the tools players need to be successful. So leave screwdrivers, pliers, etc. at home. Treat the room with respect - you don't want to be the reason the next team faces a malfunctioning puzzle!
Escape Room Suggestion: Think Outside the Box
Escape room puzzles often require collective thinking to solve but try not to overthink puzzles to the point that clues become red herrings. Consider unconventional solutions but don't rule out the obvious by not trying different solutions. Know that hidden compartments are often cleverly disguised, and seemingly ordinary things could hold the secret to your escape.
Escape Room Rules: Listen to the Game Master
If your game master is suggests you take a hint, or offers advice, then listen to them. There is a reason they're doing so. The game master understands how much puzzling the escape room contains and how far along your group is within the game. When a game master warns participants to stop doing something, especially something destructive, then heed their warning; otherwise, you may find your game ending quickly.
Escape Room Must: Win or Lose, Have Fun!
The primary objective of an escape room is to have a fun and engaging experience. Don't get discouraged if you don't escape within the time limit. Celebrate your successes, learn from your mistakes, and most importantly, enjoy the camaraderie and challenge with your team.
By following these escape room rules, you'll ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for yourself and your teammates. So, put on your thinking cap, embrace the challenge, and get ready to take on Columbus’ best escape room, the Magician’s Secret!
