Funny Guest Moments in Escape Rooms

“After building and running escape rooms for 9 years, I share a few funny guest moments from our games as witnessed by me and our game masters. We’ve found that people are interesting to watch, and some - they are downright hilarious!” - Louis

Farting
Farting in escape rooms happens quite a bit, even though we can see and hear the players. One day comes to mind when a family - kids, parents and grandpa - were playing one of our escape room games. During the game, grandpa decides to let one go, smoking out the entire room. His family called him out, mercilessly, by yelling, “Grandpa!” It was truly a funny moment at the time.

My favorite funny, fart adventure happened, late one evening, when our last group of players arrived. Four ladies in their twenties showed up drunk - never a good idea before playing a game that requires one’s wits and wisdom. In the middle of their game, and I mean directly in the middle of the escape room, one of them farted silently. Unfortunately, for the rest of the players, the center of the room reeked; so every time they had to move from one side of the room to the other, they had to pass through a sulphureous cloud. I’ll never forget one of the women saying, “That one has staying power.”

The Detective
The first game that we ever built was called, “The Missing Detective’s Office.” It was very popular up at our Canton, Ohio location, Escape Room Downtown. One evening our guests showed up with a real, but retired, police detective. His family kept saying how well he should do in this game because this was, of course, his former career. At the last minute, the man backed out of playing, fearing his reputation would be tarnished should he fail! None of us could talk him into playing after that.

Two Guys, Two Ladies
One of our game masters had a group consisting of two young ladies and two young men. The gents dressed up in suit jackets they had found on the set. One of them also donned a 2 gallon metal pan as a hat on his head. They then proceeded to dance around for a bit. Eventually, they got the idea that it would be funny to lock the two ladies inside one of the game's secret rooms. They did and it was funny! (The game master just directed the ladies to a secret door so they could exit. The boys were unaware of the secret exit door and were surprised when the ladies showed up on the other side of them! Yes, that is their photo on this page.)

Funny Kid Line
Escape room puzzling can be tough at moments, and sometimes one might feel like they’re not much help to the team. One of our game masters recently heard this funny line from a young boy who screamed out, "I actually did something!"
